What is a life project ?

The LIFE programme is the European Union’s funding instrument for the environment and climate action. The projects funded by the LIFE programme implement, develop and strengthen the European policy and legislation.

LIFE funds can benefit private individuals, public organisations and NGOs. Since its creation in 1992, the LIFE programme has funded more than 4,500 projects.

For the period 2014-2020, the LIFE programme has a budget of €3.4 billion. Funding is granted following a call for proposals.

The Life programme includes the Environment and Climate action sub-programmes.

The Adapto project belongs to the Climate action sub-programme with climate change adaptation as its priority area.

The main objectives of this area are:

  1. The experimentation of best practices,
  2. The development of integrated projects,
  3. The improvement of the knowledge base,
  4. The contribution to the elaboration and to the demonstration of innovative technologies, systems, methods and instruments.
